My son has a diagnosis of Autism & ADHD. It isn’t uncommon for individuals with these diagnoses to experience issues with continence extending beyond typical developmental milestones.

My son refused to go to camp or sleep over with friends due to bedwetting. When he was 12, I sent him to camp where he had a room to himself & strategies to hide incontinence from peers. Despite this planning, the ordeal was highly traumatic for him. He did not sleep at all, my phone was ringing non-stop out of pure panic. Imagine being in an unfamiliar environment, in a room all by yourself, fear of wetting the bed, no family to provide reassurance. He was traumatised.

We made a deal. I would never suggest he go to camp or a sleep over ever again while he was still experiencing incontinence. But, I asked him whether he’d like me to ask someone who could try to help him. I had never heard of Rhema Health care but I found them on a local Facebook notice board. Chrissy Muchenagumbo came over and met with me and my son. She provided professional recommendations that we followed, and included a bed wetting alarm. Bear in mind, we had tried every possible strategy imaginable without success. Both my son and I thought he would never stop wetting the bed.

We followed Chrissy’s recommendations and after a few weeks, he no longer wet the bed! No more pads, no more stripping the bed every morning, no more fear & embarrassment. Instead, my son’s smile spread from ear to ear. He was as proud as punch that he achieved something he thought impossible!
